About the Energy Efficiency Capital Grant
The Energy Efficiency Capital Grant (EECG) will help Northern Ireland businesses reduce energy costs and build resilience through green efficiency. EECG provides grant support to buy and install energy efficient equipment that reduces energy and carbon emissions.
This project is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
What are the benefits of the Energy Efficiency Capital Grant?
Grants of up to £150k are available to help businesses buy and install energy efficient equipment. The rate of support covers the total eligible project costs and is based on company size:
- Large - maximum of 30%
- Medium - maximum of 40%
- Small & Micro - maximum of 50%
Examples of projects that will be considered for the grant include:
- Heating and cooling equipment
- Motors and drives
- Compressed air
- Lighting
- Onsite renewable generation

Who is eligible for the Energy Efficiency Capital Grant?
To be eligible, businesses must be:
- a registered company based in Northern Ireland
- trading for at least 2 years
- registered for business rates for the premises where the project will be implemented
- able to demonstrate that it has sufficient funds to cover a reimbursement grant
- either the owner of these premises or have a long-term rental agreement
Businesses must also provide the following documentation to support the application:
- 12 months of electricity/energy bills
- the last 2 years of financial accounts
Businesses may apply for up to 3 projects (located at one site) in one single application.
Only one entity within a group structure of companies can apply for the grant at any one time.
Sports clubs/organisations, charities or farms are not eligible. A full list of exclusions can be found on page 3 of the EECG - Guidance Notes (PDF).
Is my project eligible for the Energy Efficiency Capital Grant?
To be eligible, projects must:
- have a total eligible spend of at least £4,000
- demonstrate energy and carbon emission savings, these figures vary depending on the type of project; check guidance notes for more details
- achieve a payback of between 1 and 8 years. A higher payback may be allowed but these projects will require a higher level of energy and carbon savings. This is the capital cost divided by the yearly energy savings.
Please note, any 3rd party statutory requirements such as building control, planning permission, grid connections etc. must be considered prior to applying. Check page 10 of the guidance notes for more details.
