Invest NI confirms that an unplanned protest took place during an event it was holding at the International Convention Centre Belfast on Wednesday 15 October 2025.

At approximately 14:10, a number of individuals gained unauthorised access to the venue, bypassing security and disrupting the event. The individuals displayed flags and engaged in loud and confrontational behaviour directed at Invest NI staff and clients, despite repeated attempts by Invest NI and ICC staff to de-escalate the situation. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) were contacted immediately and responded promptly.

Both Invest NI and ICC staff acted swiftly and responsibly to restore calm and ensure the safety of everyone present. A meeting has been sought with ICC to review the security response.

This incident was distressing for those involved. Invest NI takes its duty of care to staff and clients extremely seriously. While we fully respect the right to lawful and peaceful protest, acts of trespass, intimidation, or abuse towards employees are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Invest NI remains firmly committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all employees and will take appropriate steps to protect our staff from inappropriate behaviour.
